About Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County
Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County forms the eastern border of Hungary, borders three countries ( Ukraine,Slovakia, Rumania), its distance from Budapest is approximately 240 km, it can easely be reached by car, by train and by air ( with small and middle sized aircraft). 228 settlements are situated in the county, 20 of which are towns, and cities. The Capital of the County is Nyiregyháza, its population is 120 thousand person. Population of the County: 572 thousand.
Sectors of economy that are typical of the County:
A varied secondary and higher education of excellent quality takes place in the county. Both secondary and higher educational institutions provide a continuous stream of employees for enterprises and companies which have already been set up or are intending to come to the County. The rate of unemployment is 10%, which is compensated for by an effective retrining system with the re-education of 4-5 thousand unemployed annually. Professional and technical education goes in 47 secondary schools, where the students have the opportunity to acquire high level knwoledge of foreign languages as well. The institutions of higher education in the capital of the County, Nyiregyháza, have a notable past and an important contemporary role.
All the towns and cities have cultural, entertainment and sports facilities of European Union standards and are available to visitors. These facilities include theatres, concert halls, art galleries, sports centers, thermal bath, hotels, restaurants, clubs, language schools.
Modern medical institutions and medical care are available there.
The undisturbed and unharmed nature, the clear water of the rivers ( the second biggest, River Tisza flows across the County), and the thermal baths to be found in several settlements of the County ensure pleasant and comfortable conditions for convalescence, recreation and entertainment. At the border of the County lie the world famous vineyards of Tokaj. Trips and tours are organised to the hills of Tokaj, which provide unforgettable views of the region.
The capital of the County is Nyiregyháza, which is situated in the middle of the Nyirség. It is the seventh biggest city of the country. Both rail and road junctions meet here. Transport routes, running from the West to the East come together in the City, it is an important nodal point of Corridor No. 5 of the Europian Union running from Triest to Kiev. Nyiregyháza is considered to be a logistical, financial, commercial center.
Considering the 21 secondary educational institutions, the three colleges, and the university, Nyiregyháza can be referred to as the city of schools. The services provided in the city have the same quality level as services anywhere in Europe. There are 21 bank branches, domestic and foreign, a wide range of accomodation facilities ( appr. 1000 rooms ) in hotels as well as unique facilities for entertainment, refreshment and recreation, all available in an expectional environment.
A dynamic and spectacular development has resulted in the appearance and establishment of multinational foreign investor in Nyiregyháza since the beginning of the 90s. This has been reinforced by the fact that the region has been declared a major development area. The well-qualified and young labour –force contributed to the consolidation and the firm growth of industrial activities.
Záhony is often referred to as the gateway of East-Europe. The biggest rail logistics centre in Central-East Europe operates here, and this is where Hungary’s first special economic zone was established, with Záhony as its centre. The border crossing for road and rail transport plays an important role and trade of not anly the County , but Hungary as a whole, since a considerable proportion of exports to the East, and imports from there, cross the border at this point. This is the only border crossing to the C.I.S., it is the biggest cross-border region and truck terminal in Hungary.
About Our Chamber
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County operating, in virtue of the Act on Chambers amended in December 1999, with the voluntary membership since 1 November 2000, plays a decisive role in the economic life and future growth of the county. The above referred multi-national and domestically owned companies, and also the small/medium size enterprises can be found among the members of the Chamber. Beyond this, many craftsmen have also joined the Chamber’s membership. Considering the statistical numbers, it can be said that the enterprises that joined the Chamber produce 60 per cent of the total county’s GDP.
The major element of our strategy is to be at the service of economy, namely the economy of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County represents the big-scale industrial, trading, service-providing enterpreneurs and craftsmen taking active part in the county’s business.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County counts 1400 members and for these members there are four professional sections on the basis of the firm’s main activity, namely:
The companies can organize classes and special cathegories inside these sections. The classes and special categories are very active organizations, they take part in business meetings, professional trainings and monthly sessions. The chamber have a direct connection with their members and can organize any kind of training needed. The most active classes are the class of the heavy industry, textil industry and food industry.
We have very good connections with a few Rumanian chambers, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of East Flanders and the Transcarpathian Chamber. We are the gestors of the Hungarian –Ukrainen section and the main coordinator of the „Plato Magyarország” project.
